Target 12 Days of Beauty: Day Two

Hey cupcakes! Back for day two of the Target 12 days of Beauty box. In case you are just now joining us on this journey, this box was (and is) sold in Target as "advent calendar" of sorts. It retails for $15. So let's see what we got already!

Another oldie but goodie! I've used this for awhile. It's the e.l.f. lip exfoliator. These don't retails for much, $2-3, but they are always handy to have around.

I also wanted to show you guys my Christmas nails I had done today. I've been really into shellac lately. This is a couple shellac glitter polishes.

Well I think that's about all for today, cupcakes. I'll see you back here tomorrow for day three of the beauty box.

Target 12 Days of Beauty: Day One

Hello, cupcakes. It has been quite some time, and for that, I am sorry. I decided to try my hand at Youtube, and after making a few videos, found out that wasn't right for me, so I kind of became uninspired for a few months. I am however, back and we are going to jump right in with day one of Target's "12 days of beauty" box. It retails for $15, and comes with twelve beauty/skin care items.

Day one was a true classic beauty item, that a lot of my friends seem to have fond memories of, from the beginning of their makeup journey. This item is the Maybelline Great Lash mascara. I myself wore this mascara for a great many years, about 6-7 years ago. I think it's a great start to the box; a nice little mascara to hold you over when you may be in between mascaras or to stick in your purse for quick touch ups.

To be honest, this is not a mascara I'd reach for unless I were out of my favorites. I tried it out again today, and it just didn't provide the volume I look for in my mascara. I did however like the shade choice. I think even for drug store mascaras, there are better options nowadays, but this is a nice throw back.

If you'd like to get your own Target beauty box to follow along with me, you can find it in the makeup section of Target or online by clicking HERE. (P.S. Right now Target has them online on a special, buy one get one half off, so you can share the experience with a friend!)

Check back with me tomorrow, and for the next 11 days, as we open this beauty advent calendar.

I've missed you all. It's nice to be back!

Goth Mom Tag

Hey cupcakes! I've been meaning to do this Goth Mom tag for a while now. While I don't label myself, if I did, goth certainly fits. Let's begin-I'll include photos of my kids and myself through out.

1. Do you force your kids to wear black?
No, in fact very few things my kids own are black. Both of my girls LOVE pink and they wear a lot of color.

2. Do you force your children to listen to metal, or rock and roll?
No. We listen to metal and rock stations on the radio in the car, but otherwise they listen to what they want. My oldest daughter loves KISS, and they both like a lot of the Disney songs.

3. What is your favorite alternative clothing brand for your kids?
I don't buy them alternative clothing because that isn't their personality. My oldest daughter loves unicorns, mermaids, glitter, and pink. My youngest would wear Minnie Mouse every day if I let her.

4. Do you want to have any more baby bats?
No. My two princesses keep me pretty busy. My tubes are also tied due to a medical condition.

5. Have you or have your children ever experienced any negativity due to the way you dress?
Not really. People stare and give looks, but no one has ever said anything to me or my kids. Most of their friends tell me how much they like my tattoos though.

6. Do you hope that your kids will follow in your stylistic footsteps when they come of age?
I think my kids would be beautiful in the goth attire, but I don't necessarily hope they follow my footsteps. My hope is that they find out who they are, and be themselves 100%.

(These are my girls with a gothy looking IG filter. I think they look pretty cute!)

7. To quote Eric Draven from The Crow, "Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children." Do you think it's important to be a positive, strong role model for your children?
Yes, of course. I was raised by a strong woman, who was raised by a strong woman, and the lineage of strong women continues as far back as I know.

8. What do your children think about the way that you dress?
It's their normal, so they really don't talk about it. Occasionally they'll say "Momma only wears black" or "Black is Mommas favorite color!" but that's about it.

9. Have your children ever felt, or do you ever feel like you embarrass your kids?
I don't think so. As I mentioned above, their friends usually comment on how much they love my tattoos. I think kids are a lot more open minded than adults a lot of the time.

10. As a Goth mother in the sub-culture community, can you offer any advice to other mothers out there?
Don't let motherhood change who you are. I would do absolutely anything for my kids, without a second thought. Briefly after I had both of my children, I felt the need to "dress normal" to be more motherly. I wasn't happy and I didn't feel like myself. I think it's better for us AND our children to keep who we are, and show them to be proud of who you are.

VP Fashion Review

Hey friends! So about a month ago, I decided to cut my hair. In my experience, this is rarely a good idea. This idea turned out to be especially bad when my hair was cut 2-3 inches shorter than I wanted. I've been wanting to try VP Fashion extensions for quite some time now because a lot of my favorite Youtubers use them (especially ShanShortcake Beauty, and she's my favorite!) So this felt like a perfect time to try them out.

I bought the "Silver Series Colorful Clip In C057" in the length and weight of 14"/170G, which is described as their "thick" weight. I opted for a customized ombre proportion with a longer black panel, as my natural hair is black. Their customer service was very helpful, and my product was shipped and received within a week and a half of ordering.

To begin, let's take a look at my natural hair. It's a bob, and the section you're seeing is the longest part of my hair, which is approximately 10-11 inches. The back is very short, about 3-4 inches.

The extensions arrived straight (as requested and described), well packaged in a quality VP fashion box. Here is my first experience trying them on:

My first impression was that they are very soft and thick. They were easy to apply and blended well into my hair. I quickly learned that I prefer them curly, as they blend better into my natural hair. Lazy girl hack-if you curl them it will last at least three days!

I am NOT sponsored by VP Fashion (though I would like to be, hit me up VP Fashion!) and I paid full price with my own money for these, but I am totally in love. I am already planning on what set I want to buy next. I would recommend these to anyone from girls in situations like me who got a bad hair cut, to girls who just want to try out fun colored hair. Here's an insta-picture of me in them today:

I've got a lot of compliments on them, and I will absolutely be a repeat customer. Visit www.VPFashion.com to get yours!

June 2017 BoxyCharm

Downtown Charm

Hey cupcakes! The June BoxyCharm theme is "Downtown Charm," and it is my favorite BoxyCharm box yet! I also got every single shade/product variation I wanted. Let's take a look:

  • RealHer eyeshadow pallete (II)$28. I heard a lot about how the color payoff wasn't good but they were pretty opaque when I swatched them, perhaps a couple colors were chalky, but very useable. I also got the shades I wanted!
  • Biobelle Cosmetics sheet masks (3 of them) $14.97. I haven't tried these, but I'm excited to use them.

  • Diamond Glow Powder $26.99. Appropriately named, this highlight looks like tiny diamonds on your skin.
  • Ofra Cosmetics liquid lipstick "Tuscany" $19.90. It applies smooth and dries down pretty quickly. I'm excited to use it.
  • Luxie Beauty Rose Gold tapered face brush $24. My brush came bent and I'm not really sure what'd I'd use this for, but you can never have too many brushes right?

All items are full size and the box total is $113.86 and included at least three products I'll use.  CLICK HERE to experience next month's Boxy Charm with me!

Amazon Toothbrush Makeup Brush review

Hey cupcakes! I was sent these brushes by a seller on Amazon for my honest review, so here it is! I've been wanting to try these style of brushes for some time now, and after I received the Crown brush in my Boxy Charm, I couldn't wait to get my hands on some more. Here is what this set comes with:

You get five toothbrush style makeup brushes, a beauty sponge, and cleaning egg. The current list price for this set is about $12 which is a STEAL! I found these brushes to be every bit as good as the Crown Brush -and you'd pay more for that one brush than this whole set!

It is a must for everyone from makeup beginner to pro. I use my set every day. CLICK HERE to get your set.

FCS Treat Yo Self Haul

Hey cupcakes and fellow Fortune Freaks! I just thought I'd share my Fortune Cookie Soap "Treat Yo Self 2k17" haul and my thoughts. Here's what I got, except for a "The Pit personal space" that was accidentally left out of my box. Fortune Cookie Soap has amazing customer service though, so I have no doubt it'll be taken care of!

Snake Juice OCD- To me, it's a little odd of a scent. For all you old school Fortune Freaks, it's got that plasticy smell of "What? It's 5 o'clock Somewhere" but with coffee instead of strawberry. It's not the scent for me.

You Beautiful Tropical Fish FCS-First off, the mermaid shimmer dusting is BEAUTIFUL. The scent is a little more "melon" than I'd like, but it's a good summer scent, and so cute.

Swan Ronson Hair Oil- I think white tea and raspberry is the notes that stand out to me the most. I like it!

Stop. Pooping. toilet spray- SUCH a funny moment in the show to use as the name. This scent is probably my favorite of the ones I got (though I have high hopes for The Pit.) I LOVE apple scents.

So yeah, that's it for me cupcakes. If you ordered this collection, tell me what your favorites are! Don't forget to comment and subscribe as it helps me out so so much.

Ulta Haul

Hey cupcakes! I just wanted to share my Ulta haul with you guys, and my thoughts on all the products. I got Stila magnificent metals glitter & glow in "Smoldering Satin", the Naked basics palette, a NYX full coverage concealer, and a NYX stay matte but not flat powder foundation, for a total of $68.

My thoughts:

  • Stila magnificent metals glitter & glow in "Smoldering Satin." First of all, these are absolutely GORGEOUS. They apply easily, and I think they would be good for anyone beginner all the way up to pro. My only complaint is that the glitter in them tends to migrate on the eye throughout the day.
  •  The Naked basics palette. I have wanted this palette for YEARS and it was such a disappointment. The first three colors are very similar, and all the shades are chalky and difficult to blend. I'd take ColourPop shadows over these any day of the week.

  •  NYX full coverage concealer. The lightest shade offered isn't light enough for me, but I like the texture and coverage. I haven't been able to try it under my eyes yet, but for $5, even if it's just good to clean up my brows, I feel like it'll be worth what I paid.
  •  NYX stay matte but not flat powder foundation. The shade seems okay for me, but I would definitely not call this a foundation. The only way I'd feel comfortable wearing it is over a foundation.
So those are my thoughts, lovelies. Do you own any of these products? If so, what do you think about them? Don't forget to subscribe, dears.

Fortune Cookie Soap Summer Launch (and GIVEAWAY)

Hey cupcakes! So as most of you probably know by now, I was invited to attend the 2017 summer launch party put on by Fortune Cookie Soap for the release of their summer collection, "A Pirates Life For Me." When I arrived and entered the warehouse, an amazing smell practically kicked me in the face-a wonderful blend of all the yummy scents being stored there.

Next, I met Rachel. She was lovely and kind, as always. After I met with Rachel, I met the queen of soap universe herself, Shannon!

If I didn't know why the company was growing at such an outstanding rate before, I definitely do now. Shannon was so warm and welcoming. She embraced me in a big hug and welcomed me to the launch, told me to make myself at home and enjoy some of the food they had brought in. I was introduced to the crew, and saw a few familiar faces. (Meri Sue, Abby, Bethany, and of course Justin.)

Tina, who is very much the Mom figure, showed me to my seat, and before I knew it what I had seen so many times on my computer began before me in person. Shannon and Justin also brought me in front of the camera for a second to say hello. (You can see me on the launch party stream #1 at about 6:53)

Like you who watched the launch video, I got to see this sneak peek from the "Treat Yo Self 2k17" collection. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, but it smells SUPER good.

It lasted about an hour, and afterwards I got to look through the warehouse shelves. It was the coolest thing to see all the smelly goods on the website in person. I was able to talk to Shannon and Justin a bit before leaving with this beautiful haul of goodies.

Isn't it pretty? Afterwards I went back to my hotel and poured everything out on the bed, and opened/smelled everything like a kid with new toys. You guys, all I can say is, Shannon and Justin (and the whole FCS crew) are every bit as amazing, kind, and friendly as we experience them online. They made me feel like one of the family, and I am forever a Fortune Freak! :)

P.S. Here is a bonus picture I stole from Justin, of everyone taking a shot just before the launch started.

Fortune Cookie Soap Summer Box 2017

Fortune Cookie Soap A Pirates Life For Me 2017 Summer Soap Box should be arriving your way soon, if you don't have it already! If you've never heard of the soap box, Fortune Cookie Soap is a company out of Tulsa, OK that does a seasonal soap box comprised of 8 to 10 samples of bath and body product samples. The subscription also comes with a $10 code, which a lot of us use towards the purchase of full size goodies at launch night*.

Fortune Cookie Soap creates unique products, in clever themes, you won't find in any store. This summer, Fortune Cookie Soap's summer collection was inspired by the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, Dead Men Tell No Tales. I am absolutely OBSESSED with the film series, and of course Johnny Depp, so I'm extra excited for this one. The collection features a lot of pirate themed scents that are sure to leave you wanting to join their pirate crew. Arrr matey!
Let's dig in!

Walk the Plank-OCD Hand Sanitizer (Oak aged bourbon, sugar cane, pomelo, tobacco, mandarin zest )This scent smells really familiar, but I can't put my finger on it! It's a really complex scent though, and I think bourbon is the top note that comes through for me. COME THROUGH Bourbon COME THROUGH!
Monkey Business-Whipped Cream (Lemon, pineapple, banana almond cake)
If you are a foody/fruit scent lover, you're going to die! This whipped cream smells good enough to eat!

Bring Me That Horizon-Fortune Cookie Soap (Cactus pear, ghost flowers, water lilies, sea mist, and warm sand)
This scent is one of my favorites of the box. It's really beachy and along the same lines of Iron Islands/Once A Beach, Always A Beach.

Mermaid Tears-Shimmer perfume oil (Sugar cane, morning dew) This smells really summery and citrusy. It's not normally a scent I would like, but I like this one!

Black Pearl-Exfoliating Body Wash (Tropical pineapple, pink pepper, Cuban tobacco, suede, peony, jasmine)
I don't know about this scent. It smells really odd to me, but maybe once I try it some of the scents will peek through.
Parlay-Lip scrub (Lime, coconut)
I LOVE this scent. The lime and coconut marry together perfectly. SOOOO good.

Calypso-Solid Foot scrub (Peach blossom, berry, floral hearts, amber, vanilla musk, fig)
Mine arrived pretty mushy, but I'm going to try to let it set back up in the fridge. It's a pretty, floralish scent that's very complex.

Aqua De Vida-Facial cleansing oil (Coconut, rum)
I don't think I understand how the whole "remove oil with oil" business works, but the scent is really light and pleasant!

No scents in this box stick out to me as a front runner, but there are a lot I like, such as Walk The Plank, Bring Me The Horizon, Mermaid Tears, and Parlay. Remember once this collection launches, May 26th at 6pm CST on the Facebook page, you can get all of these scents and most of the products.
Plus....I'LL BE THERE! That's right cupcakes, you will see me live at the Facebook launch this time. AHH, I can't wait. I'm going to blog as much as I'm allowed so check back!
Until then-
Sammi Cupcake

Please note this box was sent to me free of charge for my honest review. These opinions are 100% my own.

April FCS of the month box

April FCS of the Month box

Hey cupcakes! This is just going to be a quick look at the April FCS of the month box. The theme this month is "Shower." Honestly, I wish I would've paused this month, as a lot of the scents and products aren't for me, but they are SUPER cute and there's a couple I'll get some use out of. I'm not really a fruity/citrus person, but if you are, you'll love this box!

Here are the products:

  • Eat Me shower oil
  • Don't Drink Me shower jelly
  • Pool Party body wash infused sponge
  • Poisonous Fog shower steamer
  • Honey Dew Me shave oil
  • Tink solid sugar scrub
  • Bravery deep conditioner
I know I'll for sure use the Tink solid sugar scrub (one of my top 10 favorite scents!) and Bravery deep conditioner. I have one of those about half way used in my shower currently. Fortune Cookie Soap deep conditioners are LIFE. I like the scent "Honey Dew Me" but I don't use the shave oils. The rest of the items I'll probably trade/sell/gift.

If you got this box, what item is your favorite? I'm most excited about Tink.

-Sammi Cupcake

P.S. When my mail man delivered this box he told me "I don't know what you have in here but I've been smelling it all day. It smells amazing!"

ColourPop pressed powder

Colour Pop pressed powders

As most of you probably know by now, ColourPop came out with pressed powder eye shadows which retail for $5 each. Here are the eight shades I bought. (L-R:) Pep Talk, Hear Me Out, Fire Fly, Bel Air, Made To Last, Dreamboat, Paper Tiger, and Cute Alert.

Here are swatches of the shades I bought. I really like these but I doubt I'll buy more unless they make another shade that just completely blows me away. The eight shade z-palette seen above cost me $40 and that's just a bit much for me. That being said, I do feel like they are good quality and very pigmented and I'm glad they're in my collection! Have you purchased any? Feel free to comment down below your thoughts and which shades are your favorites. I find myself reaching for Bel Air and Hear Me Out the most.

March Boxy Charm

Creepy Cute

Hey cupcakes! So if you know me at all, you know I DIED when I saw the March theme, "Creepy Cute." Boxy Charm did a pretty swell job! Here is my box.

  • Smashbox photo finish primer $16. Although I haven't had a chance to try this on my face yet, I have tried some on the back of my hand and I have high hopes! It made my hand really soft.
  • Crown Brush fan brush $18.99. This brush is pretty soft and seems to be good quality, but I don't know what I would use it for.
  • Naked Cosmetics urban rustic palette $39.99. I can't makeup my mind about this palette. I think I might use it some in the fall, but that's five months away. I'm not sure if I'll hang on to it that long.

(Swatches of the palette and lippies)
  • RealHer matte liquid lipstick "I am a rock star" $15. I'm definitely a fan of the consistency and staying power of it, and I think the color will be one I'll reach for as well.
  • RealHer lip liner "I am loved" $12.50. The lip liner perfectly matches the lipstick so I'm sold.

All items are full size and the box total is $102.48 and included three products I'll use. With the theme being "creepy cute," I would've loved to see maybe a black or "vampire" colored lip product, definitely could have used a black liner...but I feel like they did the best that would appeal to most people. CLICK HERE to experience next month's Boxy Charm with me!

Unicorn Brushes

Hey cupcakes! I'm a complex girl. I eat, sleep, and breath the color black. I also like rainbows, cupcakes (duh), and unicorns. Today we are addressing the latter part of myself! I've been seeing these "unicorn brushes" all over the internet, and even though I DEFINITELY don't need any more brushes, I had to have these!

I got them on Amazon for $12.99. They are made by Sela and it is a five piece set. The Amazon listing does not supply what these brushes should be/are made to be used for but I'd say you get a contour brush, an eye shadow blending brush, a blush brush, and two that could be foundation/kabuki brush.

Let me tell you, they are SO soft and do I even have to mention how beautiful they are? The handles are a pastel lavender. The brush itself is an off-white/ivory with rainbow coloring all through-out. I upped the contrast on this picture so you can make out the coloring.

I used them today and for an "aesthetic buy," these are great brushes. As I mentioned above, the are really soft and I haven't had any shed on me either. I also tugged on the part where the silver and actual brush handle meet (where you'd expect separation if any occurred) and I couldn't get any movement-so I believe these are some really solid, really cute brushes!

CLICK HERE to be directed to the Amazon listing to purchase your own set.

How to subscribe

Hello friends! A very lovely subscriber of mine, Rachel E., suggested that I posted a tutorial explaining how to subscribe and receive notifications when I post new blog entries. I'll admit, while Blogspot is an easy interface for me to use, it's definitely not the easiest to grow with!

From my understanding, (and feel free to correct me, because I'd LOVE to be wrong about this) but I believe you can only subscribe via Blogspot if you're a Gmail user. To be honest, my main e-mail isn't even hosted through Gmail. However, here is all the information I know, and I could find, about making my content easier for you to find!

First of all, here is how to become a subscriber/follower:
Click that button that says "Follow." This is probably the easiest way!

Also, you can stay updated with my blog with the "Reading List" feature recently added to the blogger dashboard. The "Blogs I'm Following" tab automatically shows the latest posts from all the blogs you follow. You can follow any blog from your reading list, just click the "Add" button and type in my URL. ( www.SammiCupcake.com )

I've highlighted in the photo for you where you click on the left hand side to access your reading list and then how to add blogs.

I hope this helps, cupcakes! If you have any other suggestions, please comment down below! If you aren't already, please hit that subscribe button and join our sweet family.

Tattoo Tag

Hey cupcakes! I've been wanting to do this "tattoo tag" for a while now. Tattoos are sort of a passion of mine. I'm up to 13 currently and if I have it my way, that number will only grow over time! Let's begin.

  • How many tattoos do you have? 13 and counting.
  • What's your favorite tattoo? Probably this one:
It's for my Grandma (which I call "Nanny.") She loves lady bugs and used to call me "lady bug" when I was little. Also it has her handwriting underneath it that says "Believe in yourself."
  • How old were you when you got your first tattoo? About 21. My first daughter was born five weeks prior. It's a sparrow with her name under it. A foot tattoo for your first one is a bold move, haha.

  • What do your parents think about your tattoos? They've definitely changed their opinions a lot over the years. When I was 18 my Dad told me if I got a tattoo, I had to move out. He now has a tattoo bigger than any of mine. My Mom also brags on my tattoos a lot and has two of her own. I never would've seen that coming.
  • Does your boyfriend like your tattoos? If so, what's his favorite? My husband does like my tattoos, a lot of them were bought from him as gifts. My lady bug is his favorite as well. He says it's like art work on my arm.
  • Did you always have a love for tattoos and what's your inspiration? I think so. I started wanting one at about 16 years old. Most of my tattoos are inspired by my family. I have one for both of my daughters, my Nanny and great Grandma, my Mom, my husband, and even my cat, lol.

  • Do you plan on getting more tattoos in the future? I do! I have specific plans for at least 4 more right now.
  • Which tattoo would you say was the most painful? The ones on the top of both of my feet. I have a rainbow on one foot and the sparrow pictured above on the other.
  • Do you regret any of your tattoos? I had one that had to be covered up, but I don't have any I regret currently.
  • What was your least painful tattoo? My anchor on my thigh. I couldn't feel it at all, and I actually fell asleep while it was being done. None of them were all that bad besides my feet though.
That's it for me guys! Feel free to do the tattoo tag yourself in the comments, or simply comment and tell me your favorite tattoo. Love you guys!
